The transport department of Jharkhand state is giving the facility of issuing Driving License in the state to their citizens. Driving License is the most important and compulsory document to drive a motor vehicle in any public place in India. Driving License must be issued by the Local Transport authority, which has been endorsed to issue such document under the norms of Government of India. No person is allowed to drive a motor vehicle in public places without holding a valid driving license. To get the driving license, one must have the learners license. This can be obtained from your jurisdictional licensing authority which is valid for 6 months. Afterwards the applicant can apply for permanent driving license. To get this license, he/she have to pay an appropriate fee. The minimum age limit to drive non transport vehicle is 18 years.
PROCEDURE TO GET LEARNER LICENSE IN JHARKHAND:
The applicant can submit the application which can be made in Form No. 2 with all the supportive documents along with the appropriate fee to the Local Transport Zonal Office. The licensing officer will verify your application with all your documents and will take your learner test. The learner test may be in written or in computer based on traffic signal, road signs, rules & regulations. After passing the test, the learners license will issued to the applicant.

Fee for Learners License & Driving License in Jharkhand:
A. Single Vehicle Fee – Rs. 7-/-
B. Double Vehicle Fee – Rs. 140/-
C. Single Vehicle Smart Card License Fee – Rs. 349/-
D. Double Vehicle Smart Card License Fee – Rs. 449/-
Eligibility for Driving License:
1) The applicant must apply for Learner license in order to get Driving License. So you must have Learners License.
2) Apply for DL after 30 days of issued of learners license
3) The applicant have to qualify the leaner test and driving test to get learner license and driving license.
4) The applicant must be 16 years of age to drive motor vehicle of 50cc without gear.
5) The applicant must be 18 years of age or more to drive private two wheeler and four wheeler motor vehicle.
6) The applicant must be 20 years of age and 2 years experience in non commercial vehicle to drive commercial vehicle.
PROCEDURE TO GET DRIVING LICENSE IN JHARKHAND:
After issuance of learners license, you have to apply for permanent license after the 30 days and before 180 days of issue of driving license. An application in form no. 4 will be made which is submitted to the local licencing authority with all the necessary documents alongwith the fee. After verification of the documents, the applicant will be taken for driving test, for which, the applicant must bring their own vehicle with them. Driving test may be conducted to test your driving skills, traffic rules and regulations.

RENEWAL OF DRIVING LICENSE IN JHARKHAND:
The driving license can renewed by the applicant after its expiry. The driving license is vlid for 20 years from the date of issue or till the holder turn 50 years of age, whichever earlier. You can renew it one month before the expiry of DL. An application can be made in Form no. 9 can be submitted to the local District Transport Office with all the required documents and requisite fee.

DUPLICATE LICENSE IN JHARKHAND:
The duplicate license will be issued to the applicant in case of lost, theft or defacement of DL. The applicant must keep the photocopy of the original license. It is easier to track you license from the records. Lodge a FIR against your lost DL and submit it alongwith the application to the licensing authority. The validity of the duplicate license will be the same of your previous license.
